LUMINS

Luminate is excited and delighted to present an innovative alternative currency for the Luminate festival community that we have called Lumins!

We hope that the Luminate festival community will enjoy using Lumins as an energy exchange, and will feel inspired to explore options for alternative currencies and other innovations that help our communities flourish.

Lumins at Luminate

All Adult and Youth participants will receive a free Lumins card on arrival at the festival Gate. The card can be activated with Lumins at the Lumins Portal, situated close to the Village Market within the event site.

The final frontier for trading using cash or eftpos is at the festival Gate if buying a Ticket is needed.

Once within the festival, the Luminate community will all be trading only in Lumins which will be accepted by all Market traders, Healers, Luminate Cafes & the Info Hub. Cash doesn’t need to be carried around the event site any more.

1 Lumin will be equivalent to 1 $NZ (one new Zealand dollar) for ease of conversion.

VILLAGE MARKET

The Village Market at Luminate provides the festival community with a wide choice of healthy food & refreshments, arts & crafts, music and entertainment. There is plenty of shade and many places to relax with friends and family.

Food outlets are selected for their diversity of menus and conscious approach to nutrition. Traders are encouraged to use organic ingredients where possible. There will be a range of delicious meals & snacks inspired by cuisine from around the world, along with refreshments such as coffee, kombucha & juices.

A fundamental aspect of Luminate’s clean environment strategy is that disposable and single use items are not used or sold in the market. This has been in place since the first Luminate in 2008, and has resulted in a very successful outcome each festival whereby rubbish is not being generated.

In addition, there are no rubbish bins or recycling facilities at Luminate, so that all participants are required to engage with self-responsibility for their use of resources. Participants can hire ceramic plates, cups & cutlery from Luminate’s eco-dish service, or bring their own re-useable items. There is a dish-wash facility provided for convenience, and a composting area close by for any food leftovers. Some market traders also provide re-useable crockery.

The Market also has an extensive selection of arts, crafts, funky clothes, festival fashion, hats, jewellery, natural products, poi & juggling gear. Many of the traders are local artisans, and you will find a range of goods which are hand-made, from natural materials, recycled, re-purposed or otherwise ethically produced. You can also have the Luminate logo screen-printed on your own clothes. In keeping with Luminate’s waste minimisation strategy, there are no disposable items or products sold in wrapping.

The Village Stage provides a lively soundscape of original live music and entertainment while you nourish yourself with delicious food, healthy drinks or a tasty snack. The schedule runs from 10am – 8pm each day, and includes a range of well-known bands, local musicians, improvised jam sessions, poetry, circus performers, children’s entertainers and lots more.

LUMINATE CAFES

Luminate runs five cafes within the festival to offer high quality, organic, nutrient-dense, conscious food & refreshments. All menus cater for a range of dietary options. We are liaising with local organic growers in Golden Bay to produce as much of the fresh produce requirements as possible. Dry goods are bought in bulk from leading NZ organic suppliers.

Kai Organic, situated in the Village Market, offers a range of nutritious breakfast, lunch & dinner meals. The menu specialises in ketogenic options (low carb/moderate protein, high healthy fats), and also caters for gluten free, along with traditional vegetarian & vegan meals. Using seasonal ingredients and plenty of fermented additions, the meals are wholesome, ethical, healing and replenishing. Our intention is to offer a visionary menu which will not only feed people with deeply nourishing food energy but will also serve as an inspirational, transformative experience.

The Superfood Café, by the Lunasa Stage, will nourish to the fullest potential with super food smoothies, raw activated savory dishes, fresh vibrant salads, hot soul-warming brain-healing tonics, elixirs and teas…..plus delicious breakfasts, nutritious energy balls, chocolates and raw cakes. Stay energized for the dancefloor with a warm cacao, maca or tumeric latte. We invite you to relax and get cosy with a hot chai & healthy treat in the Chillounge Café, enjoying atmospheric soundscapes and downtempo grooves.

Enjoy the social interactions in the Village Market with a wood fired pizza from our Organic Pizza oven. And over at the Electronic Zone, the E-Zone Café will keep you revved up with Organic Fair Trade coffee, herbal teas and healthy snacks.

The cafes are part of Luminate’s waste minimisation strategy. All cafes serve only onto reusable plates and cups which participants bring or hire from Luminate’s eco-dish service. By providing these cafes, along with the Food Vendors in the Market, Luminate invites participants to consider avoiding bringing lots of packaged food and instead to minimize generating any rubbish and recycling, whilst enjoying healthy food & refreshments at an economical price. The perfect solution to a hassle-free festival and a happy body mind and soul at Luminate!

Luminate’s cafes are fundraisers for Luminate Festival Trust, all proceeds go towards covering the costs of providing the cafes and towards provision of the eco amenities on site. Thanks for your support!

CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Kidz are most welcome at Luminate! When we say that the Luminate Festival is Kidz friendly, we mean much more than just ‘allowing’ Kids to be there with their parents… We actually try to make the event a memorable experience for all the children who come and to support their parents to enjoy being there with them.

At all the previous Festivals, Luminate has proven to be a heaven for kids! There is no doubt that this one will be no exception. The site is ideally suited for them to tear around on their bikes with their friends, to run about safely and chill out with their parents in a healthy and safe, community creating environment…

CAMPING

The cost of camping is included in the ticket price. The spacious camping area is surrounded by stunning native bush, in a spectacular mountain location. Yay!

The campsites are 5-15 min walk from the event area. It really depends where you’re camped and where you’re going- and how fast you walk. Bring your bicycle!!

Campsites are not assigned, so please set up in a space that works for you, while being respectful to those you are choosing to set up next to. Most camping areas are grassy.

Please respect the natives of the Beech forest by camping elsewhere – this beautiful habitat is home to New Zealand’s endangered snail, the Powelliphanta. The Beech trees also like to drop their limbs, so please don’t camp beneath them. Take care of yourself and the environment by choosing a respectful camping area that works for all.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESOURCES

At Luminate we strive to share knowledge, skills and wisdom that help individuals leave the festival feeling empowered, inspired and motivated to live more in harmony with nature, ourselves and others.

We’re all about minimising waste, avoiding creating rubbish in the first place, and tackling this at source. All participants at Luminate are responsible for any resources they use and must pack out everything, leaving no trace.
