Totara Collective

Totara Collective are the culmination of 30 years live jamming and recording progressions by Shayne O’Neill and Dale Westerink.

After leaving the Auckland recording scene in 1999 and after already hybridizing musical styles in Walter Mitty and Decay Dance also bare bones Shayne and Dale teamed up with Sally McDonald and Mark Manson to create Landline inspired by early English and Euro trance and Prog. With help from the legendary max Maxwell they created 2 albums in a ambient/pop, Prog fashion. As things progressed the music started to sound like golden bay in itself affected by the deep tranquil vibes and loops of a magical area.
Landline and later Totara Collective became well known in the festival scene.

Totara Collective was born with Taki Temeke taking bass duties and leaving Shayne to move back onto guitar with Sally and Mark off to pursue there own artful journeys’.
Morphing breaks, drum and bass grooves but staying with the hypnotic psychedelic feel Totara Collective have developed a unique sound never heard anywhere else , because of our isolation and also because of staying true to the source of our inspiration the top of the sound landscape , see if you can hear it in the Music.
