Learn how to care of your drum. You will learn basic maintenance and care for the skin, tune it, how to tighten the drum, how to fix damaged skin, rope and shell and you will also learn how to completely skin or re-skin a drum. The drum is a sacred instrument that needs to sound good to inspire.
The drum is a sacred instrument and one interpretation from the African master says, that the Djembe is a symbol of joy. To get the most joy out of it it needs to sound good so that it inspires you the player as well as the listener. You will learn basic maintenance and care for the skin, how to tighten the drum, how to fix damaged skin, rope and shell & you will also learn how to completely skin or re-skin a drum.
Presenter Bio:
Miro has been studying West African drumming for the past 18 years. During this time he has learnt from some of the best African masters alive today, both in Guinea (West Africa) and also in Europe and Australia, where many of these teachers now live. As a performer, Miro has played in a number of west African inspired troupes and performed at numerous functions and events all around the world. He has been teaching and facilitating drumming workshops, weekly classes and team-building events for the past 10+ years in Europe and New Zealand.
