Gusto Gusto, from Melbourne Australia, playing music to make you dance, leaving the listener with a lingering aftertaste of joy.
Raucous instrumental music, crossing genres of world, folk, funk, jazz, balkan, klezmer, and latin influences. With a hefty dose of self-deprecation, our music is loud, happy and guaranteed to fill the dance floor. Come shake off your feelings with our own unique brand of foot stomping.
Finalists for the 2023 and 2024 Australian Folk Music Awards’ Artist of the Year, Gusto Gusto are dance floor favourites. Hailing from West Preston, a tiny pocket in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, the last two years have seen them storming stages at festivals in the UK and Australia. We are excited to welcome them to Lunasa Festival 2025 as part of their first New Zealand tour this summer.
In October 2024, Gusto Gusto released their anticipated debut album ‘…To The Ocean They Returned’, an upbeat blend of violin, trumpet and clarinet, backed by accordion, guitar, bass and drums. This album is a collaborative affair, featuring songs written by five members of the band, and drifts between myriad musical influences including latin, funk, rock and classical. The whole album is underpinned by a strong dance-y undercurrent, and was arranged and recorded by the band.
Prior releases include the 2023 EP Secret Dance Party, and Suitcase Cake EP in 2022. Both Eps are exuberant musical journeys, containing a sparkly sprinkling of world music, and traces of irreverent insouciance.
Nathan Power, on drums, has organsied the tour for the band -“Keen to share our music to a wider audience. I was at Luminate in 2018 and had a joyful peaceful experience playing with Hello Tut Tut, excited to share this experience with my new project Gusto Gusto.”
