POOKIDOLL

Pookidoll is the alter ego of Marcos Alonso. After DJing all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand for more than 10 years under the name Shahara, Marcos has taken on a production project that combines techno beats, electro fun and psychedelic madness. If his music does not make you smile then his big grin is sure to put a twinkle in your eye! The latest incarnation of his act fuses a strongly manipulated DJ set with live mixed beats of his own making.

MAX MAXWELL

Max Maxwell has been part of the NZ electronic music scene now for around 15 years, more recently playing out with Carmel Courtney and Sam Hopley as a soul/funk trio. He arrives at Luminate this year keen to revisit his roots and play a stonking set of full on tunes for folk to get down to. While he is based in Wellington currently, Golden Bay is his spiritual home and where it all started for him. Be sure to catch his set.

KAL (KT Dub)

Kal is from Malaysia, studying in Christchurch. He has been playing dubstep for one and a half years, and spins at Double Drop / Double Happy and has played to big crowds at Canterbury University and Lincoln University O Week (opening for Katchafire) early this year. He recently came second in the dubstep category at the the 2009 RDU Decknology DJ comp.

Loco Gringo is one alias of Aviel Peru. A DJ since '98 in mulitple genres of electronica, and host of various electronic radio shows, Gringo has held DJ Residencies at Nelson's Shark Club, Sting Ray and Baby Gees Lounge; Jungle Montmarte (Paris) and Maya (Wellington). Spinning his collection of minimal-house/breaks/elektro-tek/glitch-hop/dub and club, he plays danceable, fun and cheeky party sounds.... expect BIG bass, bizzare bootlegs, killer cuts and some mental mashups!

GALANJAH

DJ Galanjah started out selecting with the 'Vibes Forward' collective in Belgium, as well as hosting a radio show,'Open di Gate', with Benjah and Peetah in Ireland. DJ Galanjah has amplified reggae 'pon the radio on Fresh FM across the top of the south and internationally through www.freshfm.net. Galanjah has also co-selected with DJs Little Dread and Paul Taxi, as 'Reggae Fever', locally and around the south island. Expect a rootsy rastafari selection spanning a few decades of jahmaican and worldwide reggae. Peace and love.

LITTLE DREAD

Little Dread is the founding member of the Reggae Fever, a roots, reggae, dub and dancehall sound system that has performed throughout Aotearoa since 2003. L.D. has played at many festivals and events in New Zealand, supporting NZ reggae bands and regularly gigging through the South Island as a Reggae Fever selector. He plays a wide range of reggae and dub music, but focuses on New Zealand sounds, uplifting and conscious tracks and world reggae.

MANU

DJ Manu has been playing at (and organising a few of) Golden Bay's summer parties since he was a teenager in the early nineties... Having also been involved in the Wellington party scene, and community radio in Wanaka and Takaka, he has an eclectic and original style, but these days focuses on the groovy, cruisy side of minimal and tech-psy. He's not averse to cranking up the pace sometimes with some hip-swivelling basslines or some old-style rumbling acid and progressive trance.

DJ SUBMINIMAL

Subminimal started DJing mid 2008 on Volcano Radio in Lyttelton. Mixing up minimal techno and progressive house with chunky basslines for outdoor dance floors, his sound is sometimes described as "psychedelic picnic tunes". Subminimal has played at several parties around the south island, and also in Australia.

ADELLE

Adelle is a female DJ from Christchurch who began DJing at 17 - playing breaks, house, psy-trance, and techno to a range of different audiences at all-age gigs, outdoor parties, regular club nights and special functions. Adelle now plays an eclectic mix of electro, keeping her sets fresh and full of energy. Her sound contains wobbly basslines, big breakdowns, fidgety beats and dance floor fun. With a big enough tune selection to suit all hours of the day and night, Adelle plays electro that ranges from progressive to full on party beats that get a little grimey.
